A very large, one of a kind epimorph amethyst! This piece is a visual spectacle with the natural sculptural formations of amethyst in a different variety of purple tones. Also displaying some quartz specimens in brown orange druze. An epimorph is a rare phenomenon that occurs where one mineral substitutes another. In this case there were several vertically arranged calcite formations, which were then overlaid in amethyst over countless years. With the passage of time the original calcite dissolved, leaving this remarkable complex of sculptural sheets of amethyst remaining. An exceptional, unique museum quality piece. The piece is all in its original, rough state, the back shows the rough basalt allowing us to imagine how it was spotted and formed inside the cavities of volcanic rock millions of years ago.
